Meet Hakim, our June member profile and a friendly, familiar face around the CGC since 2011. When he first joined, Hakim spent every Saturday on the basketball court with friends. He even remembers the very first time he toured the facility and how excited he was about the yellow water slide! Over the years, Hakim has used every area of the CGC. Now, he spends most of his time in the Fitness Centre or on the Track, but he still loves the chance to shoot hoops with friends in the Field House. He is excited to be this month's member profile and to share what he loves about the CGC!

"My favourite aspect of the CGC would have to be the options I have for approaching my workout. If I don’t feel like lifting weights that day, I can book time on the basketball court. If I’m not in the mood to run the Track, I can head down for a swim. The options are pretty vast and to have a facility so close to home is even better. I am usually everywhere when I’m at CGC, but you can most often find me in the Fitness Centre or on the Track."
- What do you like about the CGC/where in the CGC will we find you?
"My number one motivator is to be better than I was yesterday. Growing up, I was always the bigger guy at school, so wanting to change has motived me to remain consistent. I have to give credit to my best friend, Nour, who has inspired me and taught me what I know now about lifting weights."
- What motivates you to maintain an active lifestyle/why is fitness so important to you?
"My current favourite workout would have to be the bench press. My biggest fitness accomplishment would have to be the day I benched two plates. That moment was indeed a special one."
- What is your current workout goal or proudest accomplishment since starting at the CGC?
"My favorite post workout snack would have to be dates. I feel like they keep me satisfied until I make an actual post workout meal."
- What is your favourite post-workout snack?
"I don’t listen to music; I tend to listen to podcasts about a various number of topics. I try to get the most out of what I do in the day and so working out while trying to learn something new is the most optimal way to use my time. "
- What is your go-to workout song or what are you listening to right now?
"Read, play basketball, and hang out with friends."
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
"I would say ice cream."
- What is your favourite food or indulgence?
"Don’t count the days; make the days count." – Muhammad Ali
- What is your favourite quote?
"My first impression was a great one. You don’t get such enthusiastic staff at other facilities in the city. I feel like the staff make my visit even more enjoyable because I feel like they are happy to see me and answer questions that I may have."
- What was your first impression of the CGC?
"I wish they knew how well maintained all the equipment and areas are in the facility. It's just such a clean place to work out in and often times that’s taken for granted. "
