2024 CGC Swim Academy Summer Swim Season
The CGC Swim Academy had a terrific summer of competitive swimming, finishing up the season as first time hosts for a successful Summer Swimming Provincial Championships! Over the 8-week season, swimmers practiced daily, rising to weekly challenges and displaying important athletic qualities with each weekly theme. On the weekends, CGCSA participants travelled around the province to compete in outdoor swim meets in Bedford, Bridgewater, Colby, Kentville, Halifax, Lunenburg and St. Margaret’s Bay. Novice athletes began in the participation level and 23 successfully graduated by achieving their 50 Freestyle and 100 IM (Individual Medley) qualifying times. As the season progressed, swimmers tracked their progress with time trials, test sets and goal setting. Their preparation paid off at the Summer Swimming Provincial Championships where CGCSA won Top Overall and Most Improved Team!

Thank you!
The successful Summer Provincial Championship weekend could not take place without the dedication of the CGC Aquatics Team led by Manager, Recreation & Program Services, Jillian Claxton; Aquatics Coordinator, Operations, Hayley Nelson: the CGCSA coaches, the CGC lifeguard team, the meet officials and many other volunteers who helped out throughout the weekend! Special thanks go to Bette El-Hawary, Airy Zhang, Jinseon Kim, Lilani Kumaranayake, Michael Song, Ramie Wang, Sam Vatcher, and Shelley Newman.
The 2024 swim season came to an end at the banquet celebrations on August 21. Swimmers enjoyed an evening of food, slideshows and swimmers were recognized for their individual contribution to the team in performances, positive attitude and hard work.
Over the many summer competition opportunities, CGCSA officials volunteered their time. The Swim Team hosted many social events, including a kick-off barbeque, tie dye night, psyche night, and the banquet – all led by a committee of CGC families. A final big THANK YOU to the families of our swimmers who supported the team and helped create a fun and exciting summer!
