CGC Swim Academy Winter 2024-Spring 2025 Recap

The CGC Swim Academy had a very successful fall! The CGC Masters and Lifesaving Sports Teams had fun splashing around all throughout HRM this season. Many outstanding accomplishments were made in various competitions from December 2024 – May 2025.
CGCSA Masters swimmer Mary-Lou Donnelly experienced a record setting season. Mary-Lou set a record for the Female Masters 200m Breaststroke Long Course with a time of 4:00.56! Many of our swimmers set personal best times this season as well. Congratulations on all your achievements.
On December 8, The CGC hosted a Masters Invitational Meet, below is a summary of the CGCSA results competing in their respective age category.
- Miranda Nessman placed first in the 50m Breaststroke
- Mary-Lou Donnelly placed first in the 50m Backstroke and Breaststroke
- Javier Murillo placed second in the 50m Freestyle
On January 11, three of our Masters Swim Team athletes travelled to Truro, NS to compete in the Truro Masters invitational Meet at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. Dylan Balmaceda and Maxim Thibault both set several personal best times.
Dylan and Maxim represented the club on February 23, competing in the Swim NS Masters Invitational Meet held at the Dalplex.
Mary-Lou placed first in the 200m Breaststroke and second in the 50m freestyle at the Centennial Pool during the Halifax Chronos Long Course Meet on March 9.
The CGCSA Masters Team competed in the NS Masters provincial Championships with Swim NS on Saturday, May 3. In total, 6 athletes participated and swam away with 16 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals and 1 Bronze medal with a fourth-place finish overall. Well done everyone!
The 2024-2025 Lifesaving Pool Competition season wrapped up, where the CGCSA team finished second in the Junior category, fourth in the Senior category and third place overall.

A few of the CGC Lifeguards competed in the Simulated Emergency Response where they finished in second place.

A big congratulations to Swim Academy Assistant Coach Clara Durling. Clara will be swimming for the University of Ottawa in the fall while completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences. We will miss seeing her coach on the pool deck but wish her the best!
The Summer Swim Academy team has been participating in unofficial time trials during their off-season to get ready for this upcoming summer season. The CGC will be rooting for you all this summer and we know your hard work and dedication will show. Good luck!
