CGCSA Masters Swim Team & Lifesaving Sport Team Highlights

The Canada Games Centre Swim Academy continues to compete to amazing results in December and January! The CGCSA Masters Swim Team and Lifesaving Sport Team have been busy breaking records, earning medals, and making memories in and out of the pool.
CGCSA Masters Swim Team
On December 3rd, 2022, the CGCSA Masters Swim Team competed in the Masters Invitational hosted here at the Canada Games Centre. The meet was a huge success, especially as several Masters swimmers raced for the first time and a few swimmers returned to competition after many years not racing. The meet was also a great bonding experience for the team—to go along with the fun and happy memories, the Masters set 6 team records!
- Amy Middleton (45-49 age group) broke a 50m Breaststroke and a 100m Freestyle record, both set in 2013
- Helena Piccinini-Vallis (60-64 age group) broke her own record in the 50m Backstroke she had set three weeks prior
- Cora Johnson (18-24 age group) set the first team standard in the 1500m Freestyle
- Victoria Chandler (25-29 age group) broke a 100m Individual Medley record set in 2016
- Helena Piccinini-Vallis, Shelley Hindle, Cora Johnson, and Colleen Purcell (160-199 combined age group) broke a team record in the 4×50 Medley Relay set in 2012

CGCSA Lifesaving Sport Team
The CGCSA Lifesaving Sport Team made a splash at the Zatzman Sportsplex on January 7th, 2023 while taking part in the 2023 Lifesaving Sport Winter Series Round 1. This sport showcases athletic ability with lifesaving skills and rescue equipment.
Here are the highlights from the competition:
- Ama Arthur (Girls 7-9): 1st place in the 50m obstacle swim and 50m mannequin carry; 2nd place in line throw
- Efua Arthur (Girls 12-14): 5th place in 100m obstacle swim; 50m mannequin carry
- Kendra McMahon (Women 15-18): 1st place in 200m obstacle swim; 2nd place finish in mannequin carry
- Lucas Corra (Boys 10-11): 1st place in 50m obstacle swim; 3rd place in line throw; 3rd place finish in mannequin carry
- Hamin Park (Boys 10-11): 1st place in line throw; 2nd place in 50m obstacle swim; 2nd place in 50m mannequin carry
- David Ackerman (Boys 12-14): 1st place in 100m obstacle swim; 1st place in line throw; 1st place in 50m mannequin carry
- Noah Robinson (Boys 12-14): 2nd place in line throw; 3rd place in 50m mannequin carry; 4th place in 50m mannequin carry
- Hugo Hu (Boys 12-14): 5th place in 100m obstacle swim; 5th place in 50m mannequin carry
- Olivier Blais (Men 19 & Over): 6th place in 200m obstacle swim; 6th place in 50m mannequin carry
- Hugo D’Alesio (Men 19 & Over): 3rd place in 50m mannequin carry; 7th place in 200m obstacle swim
- 1st place in the 200m obstacle relay (Boys 12-14) for Lucas Corra, David Ackerman, Hugo Hu, and Hamin Park

Training is in full swing as the team prepares for their next Lifesaving competition, where we get to cheer them on in their home pool at the Canada Games Centre on February 18th.
