Position Summary

Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisors, this position will ensure efficient operation of the Aquatics environment, including programs and day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will supervise and coordinate the Swim Instructors, Slide Attendants and Lifeguards, ensure safety protocols are enforced, complete administrative duties, conduct staff evaluations, and oversee deck operations (personnel issues, emergency response and training).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain iWork.
  • Enforce Employee and User Code of Conducts
  • Attend education and/or training sessions (in-services)

Programs

  • APS / On Deck Supervisor – Supervise swimming lessons and communicate with families to address participant concerns
  • Process and track program registration
  • Ensure quality programs are delivered
  • Assist with instructor evaluations
  • Manage administrative duties of swim lessons
  • Provide immediate instructor coverage, fill-in as required

Operations

  • Team Lead / On Deck Supervisor – Supervise daily operations and communication with patrons to address concerns
  • Assist with maintaining staff records
  • Assist with lifeguard evaluations
  • Mentor staff through the practice of emergency procedures consistently
  • Provide immediate lifeguard coverage, fill-in as required

Safety Supervision

  • Maintain communication with public to be readily available to respond to questions or concerns, handle customer inquiries with tact and diplomacy and respect
  • Positive public image through work quality and interpersonal communication
  • Execute First Aid procedures as required
  • Take charge of emergency situations in absence of Aquatics Management and ensure event has detailed documentation
  • Foster a relationship with the Summer Camp Supervisor

Skills

  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Enforce safety protocols with tact and consistency, familiarity with Canada Games Centre User Code of Conduct
  • Practical experience working in a noisy, past-faced environment
  • Quick response skill with calm, controlled manner during first aid and interpersonal situations
  • Capable of using independent judgment while maintaining a professional demeanour under pressure
  • Leadership skills that instill confidence and trust in fellow employees and the public
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and exert physical effort
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills to communicate effectively with patrons and staff
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups through a variety of situations

Qualifications

Mandatory (to be maintained as a condition of employment)

  • National Lifeguard (NL) (Pool option)
  • Intermediate Workplace First Aid with CPR-C
  • Automated External Defibrillator Administration (AED)
  • Airway Management or Oxygen Administration
  • Swim-for-Life Instructor (SFL), YMCA Instructor, or other equivalent
  • Team Lead, APS, Lesson Supervisor experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Lifeguard, 3 years’ experience as an Instructor

Desirable

  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) (with Bronze Examiners)
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training
  • Health Care Practitioner (HCP) Training

Other Requirements

  • Attendance at in-services is mandatory.
  • Lifesaving/ Swim for Life Instructor Trainer is considered an asset.
  • Lifesaving NLS Instructor and Examiner is considered an asset.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a Supervisory role
  • Working environment includes physical, emotional, and mental demands on infrequent occasion.
  • Safe lifting, carrying, and rescue techniques (use of a rescue aid in the water and coordination of rescue with a second rescuer, when possible, are required by the employer)
  • Safe use of all protective/barrier equipment is required by the employer.
  • Able to deal with exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy environment.
  • Computer competencies (Word, Excel & Legend)

    Work Schedule

    • This is a contract position beginning May 27th, 2024 and ending September 1st, 2024
    • 35-40 hours per week and will fall within building hours. Schedule will vary based on facility need

    Compensation

    • The compensation for this position is $18.00-$19.50 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

      • Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks will be required as part of the hiring process
