Position Summary
The Fitness Operations Supervisor will be responsible for working along side the Fitness & Wellness Coordinator to optimize the operations within the Fitness Department.
The successful candidate will be passionate about fitness and health, focused on customer service excellence, and supportive of participants reaching their goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervising group exercise and fee-based group staff
- Scheduling, monitoring, and evaluating the fitness centre staff.
- Knowledge of fitness programming, group exercise offerings, and Fitness Centre protocols, as well as the ability to communicate these effectively to members and staff
- Staying current regarding fitness trends and advising Coordinator and Manager on “early adopter” fitness opportunities
- Tracking exercise equipment maintenance/inventory and keeping the Fitness & Wellness Coordinator updated on any equipment needs
- Providing extraordinary Customer Service to members and guests
- Paperwork and administration work as related to the position
- Preparing reports and tracking participant numbers in classes and programs
- Please note that this position will be part of the Duty schedule for supervision of the Canada Games Centre on evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule
Qualifications
Mandatory
- Passion for fitness and creating a quality experience for our members
- Flexibility in workday, evening, and weekend hours
- 2-4 years of fitness experience; supervisory experience in a group exercise and fitness programing setting an asset
- Certified Fitness Instructor, i.e., Canfitpro, NSFA, or other recognized certification body
- Certified Aquatics Fitness Instructor, i.e., AQX, WaterART, Cala, CFES, or other recognized certification body
- Additional fitness certifications such as, but not limited to, TRX, Kettlebell, Crossfit, Zumba, ViPR, etc.
- Current CPR certification
- Strong organization skills
- Good computer skills and knowledge of programs in the Microsoft Suite
- Strong communication skills
Knowledge and Education
- Degree/Diploma in Kinesiology/Kinetics, Recreation, Leisure Studies or related discipline and combination of experience
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good decision making skills
- Compassion, patience, and understanding
Working Conditions
This position is full-time, 35 hours per week, with flexibility for working a schedule between 5:30am and 10:00pm, Monday through Sunday, mornings, evenings, and weekends, as required by facility operations and schedule demands.
Working conditions in general, subject to seasonal programs, evening shifts, budgetary planning exercises or individual projects or events.
This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
Psychological Demands: Potentially high stress environment due to multi-tasking requirements and customer expectations.
Compensation
The salary for this position is $40,000 – $52,000.
