The Canada Games Centre is a national leading multi-purpose recreation and sport facility and is a major gathering place for the community. Together, we inspire healthy active living.

We are currently seeking a committed volunteer with a combination of specific skills and previous experience in the following areas:

  • Finance and accounting
  • Community development
  • Government and stakeholder relations
  • Not for profit experience
  • Passion for making a difference in the community

Position Summary:

The Canada Games Centre is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors which operates the facility through a management agreement with Halifax Regional Municipality. The Board of Directors is collectively accountable for the performance of the organization in relation to its mission and strategic objectives, and for the effective stewardship of the financial and human resources of the organization. Board members are responsible for acting in the best interests of the organization, striving to fulfill the mission and achieve the objectives set out.

Principal Duties:

  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in board meetings and sub-committee meetings
  • Monitor the performance of the organization
  • Approve the budget and monitor financial performance
  • Keep informed about community activities relevant to the Society

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours/month (meetings, preparation, consultation)

The Selection Committee will be reviewing all applications. Only those selected for an interview with be contacted further. There will be no appeal process, or any information shared about applicants. 50% of the Board to be comprised of residents from municipal districts 10 and/or 12.
