Board Member Recruitment (Volunteer, 2 Year Term with maximum of 3 terms)

The Canada Games Centre is a national leading multi-purpose recreation and sport facility providing a centre for the community, promoting healthy and active living for citizens and a major sports training and competition facility in Atlantic Canada.
Position Summary:
The Canada Games Centre is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who operates the facility through a management agreement with the City of Halifax. The Board of Directors are collectively accountable for the performance of the organization in relation to its mission and strategic objectives and for the effective stewardship of the financial and human resources of the organization. Board members are responsible for acting in the best interests of the organization, striving to fulfill the mission and achieve the objectives set out. We are currently seeking an individual with professional experience in accounting, finance or legal services and a passion for making a difference in the community.
Principle Duties:
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in board meetings
- Prepare for, attend and participate in sub-committee meetings
- Monitor the performance of the organization
- Approve the budget and monitor financial performance
- Keep informed about community issues relevant to the Society
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours/month (meetings, preparation, consultation)

The Selection Committee will be reviewing all applications. All applicants will receive notification informing them of whether or not their application has been selected for an interview. There will be no appeal process, or any information shared about applicants. However, applicants who were interviewed and not successful can contact the Selection Committee for a debriefing of their interview.
