Phase 5 with masks and proof of vaccination to go ahead

September 29, 2021

During the latest press conference, the Province has approved the start of Phase 5 on October 4th, 2021 with a cautious approach (Press Release). On Monday, the CGC will move into the next Phase and implement the Proof of Vaccination Policy. Please note a few details from our original NS Phase 5 plan have changed. Full details outlined below.

NS Phase 5 at the CGC:

Staying Healthy

  • Proof of vaccination is required – (Read More)
  • Masks are required within the facility, except while exercising.
  • Please continue to practice good hygiene, like wiping down your equipment, washing your hands frequently, and staying home when feeling sick.
  • Hand sanitizer stations are provided throughout the facility for use prior to entering activity spaces and change rooms/washrooms, and located near high-touch surfaces like stair railings.
  • Plexiglass remains at the Customer Service Desk, and Fitness Centre and Field House desks.
  • Cleaning routines throughout the day will adapt to changes in activity/amenity availability and usage to ensure proper disinfecting and sanitation at all times. When the building is closed overnight, all areas will continue to be disinfected using sprayers to allow for longer dwell time including equipment, floors, walls, and washrooms.

Booking No Longer Required

  • Public Health capacity restrictions are removed and booking is no longer required, except for the following classes/activities: Spin, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pickleball/Badminton.
    • CGC Members can book Spin, Yoga, and Tai Chi classes and Pickleball/Badminton courts up to 3 days in advance (online through MyRec or in-person at the Customer Service Desk). Non-members and 10 Punch Pass holders can book day-of at the Customer Service Desk.*
*Please note a software transition period will be needed to move from 7 days in advance to 3 days advanced booking.

Services & Amenities

  • Updated Aquatics, Field House and Fitness schedules will be posted to our website on October 1st, 2021 to help us transition out of booking. Any Fitness class and equipment relocations will also be noted.
  • Fall Schedules, starting October 4th, 2021:
  • Change rooms return to full capacity and locker use.
  • Some amenities like the Hot Tub and Sauna will reopen immediately in Phase 5, while other services will be gradually reintroduced.
  • Spectators are only permitted for CGC delivered programs where participants are 11 years of age or younger, with a limit of 1 parent/guardian per child. Spectators for rental groups will not be permitted at this time, regardless of the age of the participant or vaccination.

Facility Access

  • Separate entrances and exits for users – i.e. facility side doors=enter only; facility front doors=exit only.
  • The gates will be active and access will require proof of vaccination or valid exemption letter, ID and a membership/access card or the purchase of a Day Pass at the Customer Service Desk.
  • 10 Punch Passes will be available for purchase again at the Customer Service Desk.

Proof of Vaccination | Required as of October 4th, 2021

On October 4th, the Province is requiring proof of full vaccination for ages 12 or older to participate in discretionary, recreational or non-essential activities. This policy applies to the CGC at the access gates.

Full vaccination means 14 days after second/final dose.

What do I need to bring to the CGC?

  • Ages 12+ years* should bring three things with them on every visit to enter past the gates:
    • Proof of vaccination, either printed card or displayed on a mobile device, OR Valid Medical Contraindication for COVID-19 Vaccination letter (Policy Details)
    • Valid proof of identification, such as drivers license, Passport, Government-issued ID card, health card, birth certificate, student ID card, or Secure Certificate of Indian Status
    • CGC membership/access card or CGC program card. Non-members will receive a Day Pass receipt after purchasing at Day Pass at the Customer Service Desk

*Grace periods for youth: https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/proof-of-full-vaccination-policy/#children-and-youth

Please note: Proof of vaccination is not required to access the lobby area or front hallway washrooms, as clarified by the Province. Everyone must continue to wear masks when in these spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

How do I get my proof of vaccination?

If you received your COVID-19 vaccine in Nova Scotia, you can access your proof of vaccination online at novascotia.ca/immunizationrecord or by calling toll-free: 1-833-797-7772.

I’m a CGC member, do I need to show proof of vaccination/valid letter of exemption and ID every time?

At the moment, yes. Members 12+ years will need to show proof of vaccination/valid exemption letter and ID at every entry at the gates. We understand this may be inconvenient, but we are committed to keeping our community as safe as possible while we establish a more streamlined verification process. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and will make every effort to get you to your activity/class/program on time!
