CGC Swim Academy Fall 2024 Recap

December 3, 2024

The CGC Swim Academy fall season is off to a great start in the pool! Swimmers across all age groups are working hard on their techniques and improving race times. While the Summer Swim Team Off-Season swimmers are busy preparing for an upcoming time trial, the Masters Swim Team is preparing for the 2024 Masters Fall Invitational at the CGC on December 8.

We had 3 of our masters swimmers competing in October and they have been making waves at home and away.

CGC Swim Academy Masters swimmer Mary-Lou Donnelly competed at the Huntsman World Seniors Games in St. George, Utah. The Huntsman World Senior Games is the largest annual multi-sport event in the world for athletes 50 and over. Competing in the 65+ age group, Mary-Lou brings home 5 silver and 1 bronze medal! Her goal was to swim the 200m freestyle for the first time in decades in under 3 minutes and ended so close with a time of 3:05 and a silver medal. Even more exciting is the news that Mary-Lou broke a Swim Nova Scotia record! She’s thrilled to now hold the 200 breaststroke record in Nova Scotia at 3:56.39 (last record was a 4:11). Congrats Mary-Lou! View the full results from the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Masters swimmers Dylan Balmaceda and Miranda Nessman recently attended the Halifax Chronos Masters Swim Meet at Centennial Pool on Sunday, October 20. Dylan joined the Masters Team last year and Miranda made a return to swimming by joining the Masters Team in September. They are often seen laughing with teammates, and working hard in practice!

Here’s a summary of their results:

  • Dylan | Gold in the Men’s (18-24) 100m and 200m Backstroke; Silver in the Men’s (18-24) 200m Freestyle
  • Miranda | Gold in the Women’s (30-34) 100m and 800m Breaststroke; Silver in the Women’s (30-34) 50m Breaststroke
