Ferial El-Hawary

Whether it’s back-to-back Zumba and Yoga classes, working out in the Fitness Centre or cooling down on the Track, Ferial El-Hawary is a familiar face around the CGC. Since joining only days after the doors opened in 2011, Ferial has made the CGC a big part of her healthy lifestyle and encourages others to do the same,

  • Where is your hometown?
"Halifax, Nova Scotia."
  • What do you like about the CGC?
"CGC offers fitness classes, with excellent instructors, in addition to the Fitness Centre, the Track and swimming pool which all satisfy my needs."
  • What accomplishment are you most proud of since starting at the CGC?
"Adjusting my time schedule to accommodate attending some of the fitness classes at the Centre regularly and maintaining my weight under control."
  • What do you like to do in your spare time?
"Ballroom dancing and swimming in the open ocean (hot places only!)."
  • Why is fitness important to you?
"Swimming is  second nature for me, I spent my childhood around the Mediterranean shoreline. I have lived in Canada for the past 50 years and depend on the pools for swimming; I considered Northcliffe my home for workouts. Since I joined CGC from day one, it has changed my lifestyle by providing extra motivation through the Fitness Centre and attending some of the fitness classes (Yoga, Zumba and cardio workouts), in addition to the Track and swimming."
  • What is your favorite food or indulgence?
"I eat everything as long as it is healthy food."
  • What is your go-to workout song or what are you listening to right now?
"Dance music is great!"
  • What was your first impression of the CGC?
"Very impressive with a good number of different programs in addition to the Fitness Centre, pool and the Track,  all centralized with excellent facilities. The staff are very friendly and are available for help at anytime."
  • What is your favorite post-workout snack?
"Not much snacks, maybe almonds & some fruits."
  • What is your favorite memory of the CGC?
"The anniversary event of CGC when some of the staff who devote themselves every year to meet and greet the members and visitors."
  • What do you wish other people knew about the CGC?
"CGC offers a variety of programs that are beneficial for children, adults and seniors. I don’t want people to miss this opportunity to join for the benefit of health and sports education."
