Colm and Sophie

Meet Colm and Sophie, our member profile for June. They have been members since they were 12! While these two young professionals may have different goals now, they are still committed to being active together at the CGC. While Sophie is focused on training in the pool, Colm's routine includes playing basketball or spending time in the Fitness Centre. Once they finish their daily workout, Colm enjoys playing guitar, piano and other instruments, while Sophie spends her downtime baking banana bread and a healthy apple cake that is quite tasty!

- What do you like about the CGC/where will we find you in the CGC?
Colm – "I like the Field House and the fact that they lend out equipment. You will mostly find me in the gym or the Field House." Sophie – "I like that there are so many different options for things to do on any given day. Currently, you can find me in the gym, but during the summer, you will mostly find me in the pool."
- What motivates you to be active/why is fitness important to you?
Colm – "A little while ago, I let my health get away from me. Since then, I’ve been working hard to get it back. It’s hard work but I’m loving every day that I’m in pursuit of my goals." Sophie – "I got back into fitness for a similar reason as Colm; at the beginning of last year, I decided I had avoided improving my health for too long and decided to make a change. Now, I am motivated to keep the promise I made to myself then to stay active, and it makes me feel so much better mentally! I’ve also gotten into masters swimming (I used to swim competitively as a kid) so competing in swim meets motivates me to train in the pool."
- What is your go-to workout song or what are you listening to right now?
Colm – "I actually don’t listen to music when I work out. It’s nice to have that time to plan and organize my short-term goals while I exercise." Sophie – "I’m normal. Haha. I love listening to music while I workout. Currently I am listening to a lot of Chappell Roan in the gym."
- What is your favourite post-workout snack?
Colm – "Banana" Sophie – "Cottage cheese on toast with turkey and cucumber"
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
Colm – "I like to play soccer, and on occasion, I'll pick up an instrument." Sophie – "I enjoy reading and cooking/baking."
- What is your favourite book/movie/TV show?
Colm – "How I Met Your Mother" Sophie – "I just finished reading Gone Girl. That book is probably up there with my all-time favourites."
- What is your favourite workout routine or your current fitness goal?
Colm – "My favourite day is chest day. My goal is to continue the cut I’m on while staying diligent with my gym routine. " Sophie – "My favourite day in the gym is back day. My current fitness goal is to get back in the pool over the summer and improve my times ahead of competing in masters this coming year."
- What is your favourite food or indulgence?
Colm – "Once in a blue moon, I will devour a chicken sandwich from Chkn Chop." Sylvia – "Mac and cheese all the way"
- What was your first impression of the CGC?
Colm – "I was 12 when the CGC first opened, and it made so many activities more accessible for me and my friends." Sophie – "I was also 12 when CGC opened, and I would go there to swim with my family. I remember thinking that the pool was so amazing and like nothing I’d seen before."
