Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager Recreation & Program Services, this position is responsible for the overall creation, planning of curriculum, supervision and management of all Sport and Community Recreation programs. Responsibilities also include staff hiring, arranging of contractors and supervision of all recreation programming, while fostering and maintaining relationships with program deliverers and contractors. In addition to a commitment to exceptional customer service and a positive customer experience, the Recreation Coordinator must be highly organized, manage time effectively, and complete scheduling tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall program delivery of recreation programs which include Sport programs, After School, Summer Camps, and Day Camps
- Manage a staff of up to 70 part-time staff and program instructors throughout the year to ensure all staff are upholding Canada Games Centre standards at all times
- Overall development and management of staff team including hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating all recreation staff
- Oversees the develop daily program planning for the After School and Camp programs
- Input and manage all aspects of program registration, changes, and cancellations
- Maintain current recreation programming while aspiring to develop and grow existing and new programs that align with the Centre’s vision
- Work in conjunction with the Manager, Recreation & Program Services to create annual budget
- Ensure programs meet revenue targets
- Mitigate risks associated with the delivery of recreation services
- Continue with the Canada Games Centre’s vision to adapt all programming to align with Sport for Life movement and be age/stage appropriate
- Represent the organization in a professional manner to inspire fellow team members
- Work on special projects
- Work with all CGC departments in delivery of services
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Recreation & Program Services
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduate of Recreation, Education, Kinesiology, Early Childhood, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a recreation setting
- 3 to 5 years of supervisory summer camp experience
- Prior experience in a setting where children, youth and recreation & health are the focus.
- Program planning and development
- Demonstrated understanding of recreation and physical activity trends
- Hiring and training experience
- Experience with customer service
- Experience with computer applications and programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Legend Recreation software considered an asset
- Certifications in High Five Trainer considered an asset

Working Conditions
- This position is 35 hours per week, mainly Monday–Friday 10am-6pm with an evening shift of 12-8pm, flexibility to work evenings and weekends will be required
- Additionally fulfill Person on Duty (POD) shifts 2:30pm to 10:30pm on rotational evenings and weekends
- Expanded hours will be required during peak times such as first week of programs, special events or when required by facility operations and demands
- Working environment includes physical, emotional, and mental demands
- Safe use of all protective / barrier equipment as required by the employer
- Exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy environment

Compensation
Salary will be based on a range from $42,000–$58,000 commensurate with education and level of experience.
