Women/Girls in Karate

These sessions, hosted by Karate Nova Scotia, will introduce the sport of karate to females who either have no karate experience or have limited experience with the sport side of karate. Topics covered will include kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) and learning concepts on how to be successful in these areas in a competition. This will include proper warmups, technical tools to be successful in karate tournaments, proper cool downs and positive mental techniques to apply to various karate situations. In addition, we will have Olympic calibre Nutritionists offering sessions on how to fuel your body properly for athletic endeavors.

Sessions are with Shannon Doane, Coach for Karate Nova Scotia, 5th Degree Black Belt in Karate; Trysten Deveau, Coach for Karate Nova Scotia, Reigning Karate Canada -55Kg Senior Woman Kumite (Sparring) Champion, 2nd degree black belt; Angela Dufour, Lead Performance Dietitian for Canadian Olympic Committee; and Alanna Bray-Lougheed, MSVU Dietetic Intern

Location: Halifax Karate Dojo, 221 Herring Cove Rd (Street parking is available on Mont Street (located at the end of the Guardian Drug Store Parking lot) or in the ORB Parking lot)

Schedule:

  • 8:30am-10am | Karate session Ages 9-11
  • 10:10am-10:50am | Nutrition session Ages 9-14
  • 11am-12:30pm | Karate session Ages 12-14
  • 2pm-3pm | Nutrition session Ages 15-18
  • 3:15pm-4:45pm | Karate Session Ages 15-18

Fee: $10 per registrant (Funding opportunities available)
