CGCSA Masters Swim Team Fall Highlights

November 30, 2022

The CGC Swim Academy’s Masters Swim Team is having a great start to their 2022/2023 competition season! Here are some of the highlights so far:

1st Annual Canada-Wide Relays-Only Masters Meet

The Team started the season by participating in the Canada-Wide Relay-Only Meet, a virtual relay competition hosted by Fossils Swim Club in Alberta. In virtual meets, swimmers compete in their home pools or in a nearby pool with other teams, and then the results are compiled by the host team. The age groups for relay teams in Masters swimming is determined by the sum of the ages of the swimmers competing. The CGCSA Masters Team had an amazing meet:

  • 4×100 Medley Relay Team—Helena Piccinini-Vallis, Victoria Chandler, Cora Johnson, Colleen Purcell—won the 160-199 age group, and set a new team record!
  • 4×100 Freestyle Relay Team—Danielle Adams, Jen Hoyt, Amy Middleton, Helena Piccinini-Vallis—won the 160-199 age group, and set a new team record!
  • 4×50 Medley Relay Team—Helena Piccinini-Vallis, Victoria Chandler, Laura Ankcorn, Colleen Purcell—won the 160-199 age group
  • Final win was in the 4×50 Freestyle Relay for the 200-239 age group—Helena Piccinini-Vallis, June Jorgensen, Erin Peachey, Colleen Purcell

2022 Masters Fall Invitational

On November 13th, 2022, the CGCSA Masters Team attended the 2022 Masters Fall Invitational hosted at Centennial Pool in Halifax. Competing for the CGCSA were Laura Ankcorn, Victoria Chandler, Jen Hoyt, Cora Johnson, Helena Piccinini-Vallis and Colleen Purcell. These swimmers achieved best times in several races, and many athletes tried a new event for the first time! It was a great way to set a benchmark for the rest of the swim season.
